Now i've noticed that a lot of fans (particularly the CP ones) have been begging artists to stay within their designated genres, but for who's benefit?

Artists often leave fandoms for three reasons; loss of interest, lack of the pursued target audience, and downright harassment.

Now while it's occasionally sad to see favorite artists switch from a genre suddenly, it's good to understand that this is normal and healthy; begging and taunting the artists to keep drawing a particular subject is more likely to get them to quit permanently.

Encouraging the artist to take a break and wait patiently is a better move, as it signifies that the main watcher group is respectful and worthwhile when exploiting fan drawings.

Why stay in a fandom that does nothing but fight, boast, and downright penalize the artist for their own creativity?

From what iv'e seen with the dying CP fandom, it's an excellent historical play at what causes a fandom to drive artists away.

Target audience:
- ages 16+ and 18+
- contains well written material
- used for mature audiences,
- little to no porn
- rarely focus on OCs and more on settings
- knows the difference between reality and fiction.

Actual audience:
comments.deviantart.com/1/4568… in a nutshell.
- little respect for artist
- more negative than positive
- constantly unwatch artists after giving out options on journals like these for not updating 24/7
- nothing but RPs and Spam instead of helpful feedback

No, fangirls are not the problem. While occasionally annoying, it's actually the lone disrespectful individuals that are the issues for pressuring artists. I think fangirls can have very entertaining comments and are fine to have in groups.

Additionally, not all unintended audiences end in disaster; MLP Bronies managed to hold interest without changing the show drastically. So if someone likes or hates the genre, it can be balanced out to where it's not stressful for fans.

In general, I hope that i've shed some light as to why so many are switching to independent works instead of continuing fandom material, or just in general join other groups.

I'm thinking about taking a break from CP so I don't quite, but I still want to finish the comic and help friends out with indie games and other projects. But if I'm really not interested, please acknowledge that I am not a eternally bound to the genre.

It's healthy to give things a break, so encourage artists to be creative!

Fanart is suppose to be for fun and a learning experience for practice, so if anything don't freak out when someone leaves, perhaps support their decision or work on your own style!
